Takanari Komori is now a third-year student at Waseda University with a major in Law. He is currently a part of Table 3, discussing "Freedom of Speech and Its Restriction in Today's World". A person who doesn't want to limit himself in the comfort zone, let's all learn more about Takanari through this short interview.

"Accordingly, an appearance development of SNS seems to have changed our lifestyle and it helps everyone to say easily express each own opinions easily even anonymously but it more increases the opportunities to touch with other’s opinions which is are different from the own opinions on a global basis. The majority tends to criticize and defeat the opinion of the minority. As the result, And it appears that minority hesitates to say express their own opinions which means they are to restrict the freedom of speech."

Q1. Please tell us what are the reasons/motivations that made you apply for ISC65?

My name is Takanari Komori. I'm a junior at faculty of Law in Waseda university.

My hobbies are watching sports such as NBA,NFL and Football and to play basketball and football. In fact, I continued to played football for 10 years until high school.

I also like playing video games and reading comics.

Below are a reason why I decided to participate in and an objective which I would like to achieve in ISC65.

1. I really wanted to accomplish something international activities while I am in University.

2. I want to broaden my horizons. In my daily life. I have a good relationship with some specific friends only but I didn’t have any opportunities or maybe willingness to develop any other relationships with people who have different values and ways of thinking in my current university life. In reality this is really comfortable but at the same time it makes to narrow my horizons. I thought it should not be good for my future. I realized the importance of communicating with many people and diversities. So to join ISC65 is a best opportunity to communicate with many people who have different values and ways of thinking in diversities. I am nervous about discussions in English, but I’ll do my best and I hope to enjoy

Q2.What do you think about your table’s topic?

We live in time when the freedom of speech feels like a granted thing, but I think it’s sometimes limited by various factors.

In particular, I think It appears to me that the rootedness of the problem is that sometimes restriction of the speech freedom limitation may be unconsciously created by people themselves. Accordingly, an appearance development of SNS seems to have changed our lifestyle and it helps everyone to say easily express each own opinions easily even anonymously but it more increases the opportunities to touch with other’s opinions which is are different from the own opinions on a global basis. The majority tends to criticize and defeat the opinion of the minority. As the result, And it appears that minority hesitates to say express their own opinions which means they are to restrict the freedom of speech. When it is said that there is an added value that students can give to the discussions on social issues, I think that it’s really difficult to add the values. However, I think that today’s young people who is a SNS generation can offer a great added value when discussing the way of freedom of speech in this ongoing changing times. In any case, I believe mutual respect at least in different opinions is necessary to deepen the discussion.

Q3. Can you share with us your table's activities during the Advance Conference?

In the advanced conference, we introduced ourselves to each other and discussed the premise like “ What is freedom of speech for you?”. Fortunatelly, table chief who lives in Croatia and one Japanese participant who is studying in Philippines participated in the discussion using Skype.

After few days of the first meeting, we held the online meeting with all participants. We introduced ourselves to each other and Table chief and sub Table chief explained how we have planned on organizing our preparations for the main conference.

> On May 22, we held the meeting with only Japanese participants. In that meeting, we looked back advanced conference and looked ahead decided the how better to run upcoming off line meetings.

> For now, we are at a very early stage of making preparations for the conference. But we are configured by have unique and interesting members so I am sure that think it’s going to be a wonderful and productive discussion.

Q4. Can you tell us a little bit about your hometown?

My hometown is Urayasu city in Chiba prefecture. Speaking of Urayasu, there are Tokyo Disney land and Disney sea in the neighborhood. Many people visit this city to go to Disneys every day. And in Maihama, which where is the closest railroad station of Disneys, there is also very large shopping mall of IKUSPIARI. it has a lots of shops and restaurants so it’s really fun and attractive .

Urayasu City (especially Maihama area) is one of the most wonderful places with a calm atmosphere despite it's very good access to Tokyo station in only 15 minutes by Keiyo JR Line, so please come over to and see Maihama once
